Human Circulatory Research Shop, led by Professor Feng-Yen Lin, is dedicated to advancing translational research in cardiovascular biology. Professor Lin specializes in cardiovascular biology, histology, and experimental animal models. Our lab integrates fundamental biomedical research platforms with clinical resources from affiliated hospitals to explore the mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases and develop innovative strategies for their prevention and treatment.

 

      Our research is organized into three major areas. The first focuses on investigating how bacterial infections—such as those caused by periodontal pathogens and Chlamydia pneumoniae—contribute to systemic cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis, transplant vasculopathy, abdominal aortic aneurysm, atrial fibrillation with fibrosis, and sepsis. The second area centers on the quality and function of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), examining its correlation with cardiovascular disease. The third emphasizes the development of advanced biomaterials and novel therapeutics, including HDL isolation microchips, lipoprotein antioxidant assays, biodegradable vascular grafts, and applications of traditional herbal medicines.

 

      We employ a wide range of methodologies, including molecular biology, cell biology, histopathology, and animal models. Our lab has established numerous animal models such as rabbit aortic de-endothelialization and scaffold implantation, rat and mouse aortic grafting, mouse abdominal aortic aneurysm, atherosclerosis, femoral artery ligation, bone marrow transplantation, tumor implantation, atrial fibrosis, and chick embryo angiogenesis. We have also created a dedicated animal model repository, currently housing nearly 10 strains of mouse embryos or sperm at the National Laboratory Animal Center, available for academic collaboration.

 

      To enrich our research scope, we actively collaborate with leading experts, including Dr. Chun-Yao Huang (TMU Hospital, Cardiology), Drs. Chien-Sung Tsai and Yi-Ting Tsai (Tri-Service General Hospital, Cardiovascular Surgery), Dr. Yi-Wen Lin (NYCU, Oral Biology), Dr. Ming-Jen Cheng (Fu Jen Catholic University, Life Sciences), and renowned TCM physician Dr. Yuan-Chuan Lin. These collaborations provide essential support in terms of samples, technology, and equipment.

 

      Our team currently consists of ten research assistants, one administrative secretary, and several graduate students and physician-scientists pursuing advanced degrees. Weekly lab meetings foster idea exchange and knowledge sharing, while occasional tea breaks offer a chance to relax and build camaraderie.
